Tall Poppies - Stage Challenge 2008
![](slides/slides/pathwayunderline3.jpg)
“The Stage Challenge item is only five minutes long, so we will combine it with a Kapa Haka performance for the local event,” she says. “The students have put so much work into it, it’s a shame if the local people don’t get a chance to see it.”
A core group of students choreographed and organised the item for Stage Challenge under the guidance of director Karen Goodhew. The theme chosen was Tall Poppies, delving into the unfortunate syndrome in which those who excel are brought down by others around them, usually because of jealously or envy.
The presentation at the Aotea Centre was magnificent and extremely well received by the audience winning 6 awards of excellence plus two special awards.
Our student leadership team of Anitra Hayday, Rachael Fleming, Karena Letham, Mikayla Thomas, Sarah Tuck, Imogen Edwards, Andrew Hayward and Lauren Matheson started their planning last year, coming up with ideas for the theme, sound track, choreography, costume and set design. Thanks to all students, staff, parents and other supporters who helped with our 2008 Stage Challenge.
Mrs Goodhew provided excellent oversight, encouragement and direction and was well supported by Mrs Bennett and Mrs Atkins. Mrs Goodhew left us for 12 months at the end of term II as they travel overseas to teach at an international school in Qatar.
