Sophie's Story- Lesley Elliot shares how to avoid abusive relationships
Lesley Elliott, Sophie's mother, spoke to Mahurangi College students and the public in a number of meetings last Tuesday. She talked about what warning signs their family missed during Sophie's 5 month relationship with Clayton Weatherston who was to take her life. Signs include power and control, as Clayton was 10 years older, 10 years more experienced and also her tutor, a position of power. There were signs before the fatal day, but they were never reported to the police. Ten days after being assaulted during an argument, she was dead.
