Three Year 13 create JAK Eco Pens to market eco-friendly pens for Tossi Fundraiser

image

We are three year 13 students, Ashleigh Dick, Kris Middleton and Jordan Curin, and we are aiming to sell pens as part of the Level 3 Business Studies course. We have created our own business called JAK Eco Pens, and our goal is to help sustain this area by promoting environmentally conscious behaviour within our community, so we can continue to enjoy the natural environment.

At JAK Eco Pens we have created a pen that reflects our ideas. The pen is made out of recycled cardboard and plastics, as well as cornstarch, and we have put our own logo including Tawharanui’s name on the outside of it. It is dual function, with a highlighter on one end and a blue ballpoint on the other. We believe the idea of eco-friendly pens is ideal at this time because in our particular area, the land is 0-10% protected, and this means the land is increasingly vulnerable to destruction.

As well as being 100% recyclable, we are offering a minimum 20% of the profit from each pen to the Tawharanui Reserve, which will help them in their goal to revegetate and restore forests and wetlands, which will benefit us as a community, in the sense that our area will be more carefully protected.

Another advantage to buying our eco friendly pens, is that we offer a custom design option, for orders of 250 or more. Large businesses or local organisations can order large batches of the pens with their own logo printed on the side. This will allow them to distribute pens as a gift to their loyal customers and also promote themselves as an environmentally conscious and supportive company.

We aim to have sold 2000 pens at $4 each by the end of the year, raising about $1,600 for TOSSI at Tawharanui.
