Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award training weekend

On the March 22, 2013 Heather Graves, Ella Harnish, Calum Grey and Bree Wooller went on a Silver Duke of Edinburgh training weekend at a farm inland from Kaiwaka. We spent most of the weekend tramping through native bush and across farmland. We learnt various skills such as what to take when going on a tramp, compass work, first aid, river crossing safety and what you can and cannot eat in the New Zealand bush.
We spent our spare time swimming in the creek under a waterfall, cooking on camping stoves and watching a DVD about Mount Everest. It was an enjoyable weekend had by all. The students now need to plan and participate in a practice and final tramp to complete the silver level.
