The 52nd Mahurangi College Prizegiving

The annual Prizegiving took place on Wednesday Nov 6th in the College Hall. Alistair Elder welcomed everyone and the National Anthem was then sung. Te Whanau O Mahurangi then performed before Tracey Martin gave her BOT Chairperson's report and presented the sports and cultural awards. Following this, the Jazz Band directed by Lynn Dashper presented Straight Time and Take 5. 
In a first, the present and 2 former principals then present the merit awards. Level 1 by Mr Rex Grey, Principal – 1994 to 2002, Level 2 by Mr Alon Shaw, Principal – 1970 to 1993, and Level 3 by Mr David Macleod, Principal – 2002 to present. The choir directed by Mrs Jenny Eirena then performed the Coldplay number Fix You. 
The Principals 52nd Mahurangi College Report was presented by David Macleod, who mentioned some initiatives for the coming years, reviewed 2012's academic results and gave a quick review of some of the highlights of 2013. The Harmony Group directed by Mrs Jenny Eirena performed Emancipation an original backing vocal Silent Movie theme. Ms Tracey Martin then presented the Speicla Awards.
No Prizegiving is complete without the Student Leaders presenting their views on their time at Mahurangi College as well as review 2013 student events. Ruahei and Nicolas's inspiring speeches were well received, Bouquets were presented to Mrs Newlove and Mrs Newson, Green House was announced as the winner of the 2013 House Competition, and the 2014 Head Boy, Daniel Collings and Head Girl, Alana Hathaway were announced. They, in turn, then introduced next year's prefects and house leaders. 
The Academic Awards and Scholarships were then presented to many of this years 2013 culinating in the presentation of Proxime Accessit to Claire Docking and the Dux Award to Rebecca Moon.
