In August we sent out the first newsletter about this year’s Year 9 camp which is being held at the Dickey Flats Adventure Camp in the Karangahake Gorge on Monday 7th December to Friday 11th this year. We actively encourage ALL students to attend camp, as we know from experience, the value they gain from it. If there is a reason your son/daughter may not be attending or you foresee difficulties in meeting payment, please contact Christina Merrick (details below).

Hopefully you have all started making payments towards the $200 cost. We would like to request that all families make sure a payment plan has been started before the end of term.

We have attached permission and health forms. Please complete these and return them to your son/daughter’s English teacher as soon as possible. We are operating on a tight budget, so please indicate on these forms if you have access to provisions or equipment that may help us.

Each group of 20-25 students is expected to provide sufficient tents for their group. All cooking is done on gas cookers provided by the school. For your information, we have provided a separate sheet itemising personal equipment to give you sufficient time to organise and plan (ie. for items such as a pack you may be able to borrow from friends, family or neighbour). If you foresee any difficulties please contact one of the co-ordinators listed below.

Over the seventeen years the Year 9 camp has been run we have had tremendous parent involvement. Thank you to those parents who have already indicated they would like to attend camp with us. We can only take two parents per group so places are limited. However there are always a few groups who are short of parents, so if you are able to spare (even part of the week) to join us, we would very much appreciate your assistance.

Later this term students will be asked to indicate who they would like to be with, so groups can be made up. If for some reason you do not think your son/daughter will be able to attend, please send a note to the office as soon as possible.

We will have an evening meeting in Term Four, on Wednesday 28 October, which all Year 9 parents and students will need to attend, to give details to all about the venue, individual and student group gear requirements and to answer questions. Interim Gear List
