Students who wish to use their digital device at school should ensure they have read the official college policy below and signed the updated agreement form Click to download
This agreement form has been updated to better serve learners and teachers in the use of ICT at Mahurangi College and should be signed and returned it to the ICT office, B11. Use of the device within class is up to the teachers discretion. From the beginning of 2014, Mahurangi College operates a voluntary BYOD scheme. An information meeting with parents was held at the beginning of the year and all students have had an introduction to their responsibilities as digital learner at the College.
Policy
30.1      Responsible use of Student Electronic Devices is encouraged at Mahurangi College as these can enhance and enrich learning opportunities for students.  These devices can be used in class for educational purposes only, and only when the student has prior permission from the teacher of that class.
30.2      SED, otherwise known as BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices), includes, but is not limited to, any internet capable devices, such as laptops, MacBooks, iPads, iPods, smartphones, Androids and tablets.
30.3      All internet access at Mahurangi College must go through the Mahurangi College network (ie 3G access is not permissible).  The user-name and password for all access at school must be kept private and not shared with any other person.
30.4      Any SED brought into the college will be the responsibility of the student.  The school or its staff will not be responsible for any loss, theft or damage.
30.5      The college is not responsible for charging or maintenance facilities for SED.
30.6      Before connecting onto the Mahurangi College internet system, students and Parent/Caregivers must sign the “Personal Electronic Device and Digital Citizenship Agreement”.Click to download
30.7      Access to the Mahurangi College wireless network is a privilege, not a right, for students at Mahurangi College.  The privilege can and will be removed and disciplinary action may be taken, if the device is misused in any way, particularly to bully other students, access inappropriate or illegal websites, attempt to access servers or staff only areas of the website, or to download large volumes of data for private use (eg movies or songs).
30.8      Any SED on site at Mahurangi College is subject to monitoring, checking and audit at any time by the staff at Mahurangi College.  No inappropriate data is to be brought into or accessed at Mahurangi College.  It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure appropriate use of ICT.  Any inappropriate use should be immediately reported to senior management and/or the ICT office.
30.9      The provisions of this policy apply to students at school or on any school related events, including trips, camps or extra-curricular activities.
