MAHURANGI COLLEGE BLUES AWARDS BLUES AWARD Is a prestigious distinction that is presented to a student who has achieved outstanding success in sporting activities.  In order to achieve a BLUES AWARD the Criteria and standards below must be met.  Blues recipients will receive a badge as well as a certificate.    NOMINATIONS Parents, Coaches or Teachers may make nominations each year.  Nominations should be verified and signed off by a qualified person or persons in the sport or sports nominated.  These Nominations are to be handed into the Sports Coordinator by nominated date (Date to be advertised via website and daily notices).  All nominations will be discussed at a special meeting where coaches or teachers may support their nominations.  Where a consensus cannot be reached the Principal will make the final decision. NOTES FOR NOMINATIONS: The HOF PE, Health & Sport shall Chair all meetings relevant to the Sports Blues Awards.  In the instance where this may not be possible the Sports Coordinator may step in to take the Chair. A Board member (where possible) shall attend meetings. BLUES AWARD CRITERIA:  A Student shall -  Represent Mahurangi College in the particular sport (wherever possible) Represent to at least provincial level, e.g. North, Northland, North Harbour, or Auckland. Be in the highest provincial team possible specified for that age group, grade or level. Win a provincial title or be in a specified placing group, e.g. placed in the top 3 (where necessary see individual codes for placing required). Show good sportsmanship, commitment to team, lead by example and show outstanding performance in their sport during that year. NOTES FOR CRITERIA: Check standards for each individual sport where listed. In some sports the opportunity to represent the province or win a provincial title may not be available so nominations will be taken on their individual merit and performance.  In some situations it may be necessary to look at the quality of performance, e.g. the standard or level of the competition or the number of teams competing in an event. Representative players must participate in at least one recognised Representative Event. CERTIFICATE OF MERIT AWARD Shall be awarded to recognise the achievements of those who don’t quite meet the standards for a Blues Award. CERTIFICATE OF MERIT AWARD CRITERIA:  A student shall -  Represent Mahurangi College in the particular sport (wherever possible) Represent to at least provincial level, e.g. North, Northland, North Harbour, or Auckland. Place in a specified placing group at provincial level (where necessary see individual codes for placing required). Show good sportsmanship, commitment to team, lead by example and perform outstandingly in their sport during that year. A SERVICE TO SPORT WARD Shall be awarded a Blue or Merit Award for their service to sport for Coaching, Umpiring or Refereeing, Managing or other relevant positions for specified sport.   CERTIFICATE OF SERVICES TO SPORT: FOR BLUES AWARD a student shall –  Complete courses and or standards for any of the above positions. Actively hold any of the above positions. Provide competent and consistent service for a full season (continuity and years of service may also be taken into account). FOR A MERIT AWARD a student shall –  Actively hold any of the positions above. Provide competent and consistent service for a full season. ACHIEVERS AWARDS Is awarded for those who have achieved at a National or International Level.  Recipients shall receive a special award to recognise their elite achievement. ACHIEVERS AWARD CRITERIA: A student shall –  Represent New Zealand in nominated sport as an individual, as part of a team or squad. Participate as a New Zealand Representative in a recognised National or International Event. Be named in a National or International Tournament Team NOTES FOR ACHIEVERS AWARDS: A student may be considered for an Achievers Award when they place in a specified placing group (to be decided by committee after consultation with appropriate expertise in the sport). Second and third place getters at North Harbour Cross Country AFL Blues  Provincial, Regional or National Representative Basketball Blues  Winner of Top North Harbour Grade for Secondary Schools Age Group “A” Team Representative Cricket Blues  North Harbour or Northland Premier age group A team or Northern Districts Cricket Merit Award North Harbour or Northland age group B team Equestrian Blue Rodney Districts Representative NZSS Pony Club Championships Place in top 3 at Major Regional or Provincial Champs (Northland, North Island, Auckland, Waitemata etc.) Football Blue Northern Federation Football  Rep Northern Talent Centre Rep Hockey Blues Winner of Top North Harbour Grade for Secondary Schools Age Group “A” Team Representative  Hockey Merit  North harbour age group B team 1st XI to finish in Auckland top 4. Rodney age group representatives Rugby Blue North Harbour Premier age group team North Harbour Walter Dickson (Gold fields team) North Harbour U13, U14, U15, U16 North Harbour Secondary Schools Winner of Top North Harbour Grade for Secondary Schools Age Group or Division Rugby Merit North Harbour age group B team. Runner Up of Top North Harbour Grade for Secondary Schools Age Group or Division Tennis Blue Win Northland or North Harbour title (singles and doubles) Win selection for North Harbour Provincial Team Note: North Harbour has a far higher standard of tennis than Northland.  Our players are eligible for both. So the competition needs to be taken into account when deciding. Tennis Merit Selection for Northland age group team. Touch Blue Placed in the TOP 6 at NZSS Champs Win at North Harbour and or Regional level North Harbour A Representative National Representative NZSS Tournament Team Note:  Touch teams need to place top 2 at North Harbour AND top 3 at Regional level to qualify for Nationals. Touch Merit North Harbour B Representative Placed 2nd at NH or Regional level Sailing Blue Top 6 at NZSS Teams Champs Top 10 in National Fleet Racing for Individual Performance Swimming Blue Qualifying for and competing at the North Island SS Champs Competing at Division One and Two at National Age Group Competing at NZSS Championships Swimming Merit Member of relay team to win provincial title EDMONDS CUP – SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR All round attitude, commitment, sportsmanship, performance and contribution to sport at the highest level. Nominees need to have been involved with a wide range of sports both in and out of college, have achieved in their sports, have contributed to their sports both on and off the field or court and are a positive role model. FROST PLATE – SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR All round attitude, commitment, sportsmanship, performance and contribution to sport at the highest level.
