Junior Girls win Silver at Nationals Underwater Hockey Tournament-updated again

Underwater Hockey flew to Wellington on Thursday 1 September for an intense 3 days of competition. The Senior Open team fought valiantly as one of the youngest and one of the few mixed-gender teams in their grade. They finished in 8th place ahead of Scots' College (Wellington) and Howick College.
The Junior Girls team had a phenomenal tournament. With many of the girls in their first ever season of Underwater Hockey and a significant proportion of the team in Year 7, they have had a stunning season against teams mostly composed of girls in years 9 and 10. They had easy victories over Wellington East Girls College and Wellington High School, and beat Nelson College for Girls and Epsom Girls Grammar School in real nail-biters with our girls outclassing strong opposition.
In an exciting semi-final Mahurangi beat Tauranga Girls College to face Diocesan School for Girls in the final. This was a truly exciting gain against a strong team that our girls have been improving against all season. The final score was 3-1 to Diocesan, with our girls coming away with the Silver Medal for the tournament. They really made Diocesan fight for that gold, though!!
