Underwater Hockey continues to grow and be a strong feature at Mahurangi College and this month, we would like to congratulate student, Forrest Axford, who has been selected for the New Zealand Mens U19 Underwater Hockey team and is heading away to the World Champs in Barcelona, Spain in August.
Forrest says “Underwater Hockey is a sport like no other and to have this opportunity to represent my country at the World Champs is especially exciting!”   "I also believe in giving back to my sport and so I coach the Mahurangi College Junior Team”.  "The past few years, I have had so many people coach, manage, support and encourage me and I really want to say Thank you to each and every one of them, as I feel that they have been vital to my success.
The person who has been my biggest influence on my underwater hockey career, has been my Dad!”  “He has coached multiple New Zealand Representative teams over the years, along with our Junior and Senior school teams.  Everything that we have achieved at Mahurangi College could not have done without him.  His guidance and support has been a driving factor to my success.
Forrest is busy during his spare time, doing firewood and anything else he can turn his hand to, to fundraise for his trip to Spain. If you would like to help, please go to givealittle.co.nz/forrestaxford1029 .  You can also follow his journey on his page on Facebook - Forrest Axford Worlds Journey/Make4Spain.
Congratulations Forrest, we know you are very deserving of this spot on the New Zealand team and we are all right behind you!
If anyone is interested in having a go at Underwater Hockey, please feel free to come along to one of our trainings - Seniors Monday 7-9pm, Juniors Thursday 7-8:30pm at the College School pool.
