Mahurangi College Tours Programme
![](slides/slides/pathwayunderline3.jpg)
The College offers international students opportunities to see the whole of New Zealand during their time here, both North and South Islands. The programme has been designed to allow students low cost, budget travel to many of the most exciting destinations New Zealand has to offer. These tours are all inclusive with meals arranged for, and no ‘optional extras.’ All activities are included in the overall cost. The college can run these tours much cheaper than commercial education tour companies as it only needs to cover costs and not make a profit. All the tours except the one around South Island are during term time.
Meals:  The College funds a ‘food kitty’ where food items are purchased by staff and students at local supermarkets and students prepare their own meals, with staff advice. In this way food costs are kept at the minimum and staff ensure healthy food items are purchased.
Accommodation: We stay at Holiday Parks in separate male / female cabins or units. These Holiday Parks are carefully selected with excellent facilities for cooking, washing, and clean ablutions. All are approved by the NZ Tourist Bureau.
Activities:  These focus on adventure tourism and educational aspects of the country. Brief talks about the regions and their special features whether physical or cultural are given to the students. Some examples…an explanation of why Rotorua ‘smells!’…. why Cape Reinga is called te rerenga wairua, “the departing spirits…what was the NZ ‘death’ in the South Island in the 19th century? (you have to go on the South island tour for the answer!)….what locations were used for the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies…how can you fillet a fish?   All activities are paid for in the cost.
For an outline of the type of tours offered, see the section rTour Programme 2016
