Mahurangi College's 2011 Production 'For Today' is dazzling and full of energy

"Colourful, dazzling, humourous, and full of energy" are just some of the ways Mahurangi College's 2011 Production 'For Today' was described. The musical was set in a contemporary New Zealand high school and was directed by Wendy Sutherland, polished with the help of many staff.
Anthony Macleod and Becky Moon took the star roles of David Miller and Sophie Wilkinson delivering a stellar performance every night. Highlights included the brilliant comical acting from Joshua Free (Calvin), Paul Hazard (Paul), Reece Hunter (Alex) and the bold, feisty character Roni played by Deborah Rabey.
The traditional 'Bad guy' of the show was played by someone of the complete opposite nature Joseph McAuley (Jordan) who was surprisingly very convincing for someone so nice!
The show even featured something very close to home, The Rugby World Cup. The character Ken, played by Bradley Mentor, was a typical Rugby father who got on the nerves of wife Shirley, played by Taylor Helliwell, always complaining about the All Blacks. The audience saw even more great performances by Alana Hathaway (Charlotte) and Lana McCarthy (Liz) who sang exceptionally well and confidently.
The chorus this year were talented and full of energy adding life to the show of which we could not do without. The audiences were caught singing along to the well known Kiwi music featured and were generous with compliments, some even coming to watch more than twice. Wendy's bright colour scheme made for a effective show accented with fantastic lighting by a great Tech Crew.
However a show wouldn't be a show without dancing. This year was some of the best choreography with creativity by Kendra Hansen, Gabbi Tennant, Olivia Crean and Rhiannon Morgan who worked hard teaching ad polishing the dances to a large group of people.
All the wonderful hard work of Wendy, the cast, staff and parents and the Tech Crew paid off as the show was one of the best seen at Mahurangi College and something that all involved felt proud of. The performances were lots of fun and was well appreciated by the community of Warkworth. Well done.
