Photography Club

Our Photography Club is open to all year 7-10 students at Mahurangi College, and runs every Monday lunch time in D2.  Students who are keen photographers but have other commitments on this day, have the option to work as freelancers. During term one our focus was on mastering photography basics, developing a photographer's eye, and nurturing a passion and love of photography.  Students were given a series of fun and engaging tasks and "homework" assignments.   This term we are working toward a major exhibition featuring at the Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa during the month of September 2016.   We will be primarily working alongside students from Ahuroa School and Mahurangi Kindergarten, however schools from all over NZ will have the opportunity to be involved.   Our project "Insta-Gran" involves reconnecting our offline generation with our online one.  Students will be encouraged to spend time with their grandparents and to photograph their time together.  In addition, we will be visiting Summerset Falls Retirement Village in Warkworth, where students will participate in organised activities with a small group of residents.  They will be asked to photograph their time there, and will also be given the opportunity to be involved in more formal portraits sittings.  Ahuroa School and Mahurangi Kindergarten are both hosting a "Grandparents Day" which we will also be involved in. Our project is being funded via Ahuroa School by Auckland Council’s Creative Communities NZ, which will cover all costs for participating students.
