2015 Mahurangi College Senior Production of Forever After

image

The 2015 Mahurangi College Senior Production of ” Forever After”, the true story of Cinderella, is a vibrant and original show filled with comedic genius and spectacular performances. It includes 70 students from year 9 to year 13, who bring a diverse range of talents to the stage through their dramatic characters, folk dances, voices and even unbelievable parkour displays.

After weeks of dedicated practice and hours of work from all the students involved, the show is taking shape and is anticipating a fantastic opening night. Wendy Sutherland, (director) who has been working on the show for over a year says ”It has been a joy working with such talented, cooperative students who have brought together the vision of wholesome entertainment.” The show which includes original music and choreography, is a must- see for the whole community. Bookings are now open online or at the school office. Click here for booking

The story follows the gentle and kind Danielle (Krysana Hanley) who has been mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters (Eloise Williams-Mart, Holly Rusher, Eden Adam) since the death of her father 10 years before. Henry the Prince of France (Xavier Garneau-Roughan) is meanwhile desperately trying to avoid the arranged marriage his father the King (Jacob Bindon) has forced upon him.

The production follows the paths of these two characters as they overcome traditional hierarchical class systems and bring a modern equality to the old-fashioned love story of Cinderella. Sets, lighting and costumes, laboured over by the incredible backstage crew, bring the singing and dancing to life, which delivers humour and excellence to the stage and will delight all ages. Mahurangi’s Head Boy Daniel Vaughan says “The show brings a different atmosphere that is entertaining and enjoyable. Its great fun performing it with a wide variety of people that form a close-knit cast. The production of Forever After is filled with humour, laughs and will be a fantastic experience for everyone and I highly recommend buying a ticket.”

The show opens with a matinee performance on the 15th of June with other matinee performances on the 16th and the 23rd. On Saturday the 20th of June, the opening night is the first of several evening performances that take place on the 24th to the 26th of June.

Members of the chorus describe the show as “different and original, there are different genres of music and dance, that create a dynamic vibe….. it takes a 16th century story to a whole new level.” Tickets go on sale early in June.

As a senior student in my last year at Mahurangi College, the show has been an incredibly memorable experience to take away with me to university next year. The level of talent of all students involved is breath-taking and I am not only looking forward to the showcase of what Mahurangi can bring to the stage but also seeing where all these talented students choose to take their lives. I believe the show will inspire many young children to take part in the future shows Mahurangi will produce.

We are looking forward to seeing many of your faces in the audience.
