The annual Prizegiving took place on Wednesday Nov 3rd in the College Hall. Alistair Elder welcomed everyone and the National Anthem was then sung followed by the  Te Whanau O Mahurangi performing. The 55th Mahurangi College Report was presented by David Macleod, who mentioned some initiatives for the coming years, reviewed 2015's academic results and gave a quick summary of some of the many successful events of 2016. He then spoke about long-serving teachers, Delwyn Lawrence, Wendy Dunn and Mike Cooper as well as Trish Bartlett, long-serving Careers's Assistant, who are all retiring at the end of 2016.

The Senior Jazz Band played Chameleon by Herbie Hancock. The sports and cultural awards were then presented by Mr Mike Copper, who is retiring. Following this, the Jazz Combo played Light It Up By Marvin Gaye/Major Lazer -arranged and conducted by Moana Winiana. Then followed the presentation of the Merit Awards. Level 1 by MrsDelwyn Lawrence, Level 2 by Mrs Wendy Dunn, and Level 3 by Mrs Trish Bartlett. 

Ms Tracey Martin, Chairman of the BOT, presented her final Board report as she was standing down next year. In her report, Tracey thanked those members from the previous board who stood down at the election held early this year: Jo Hathaway, Bede Haughey and Stuart Henderson. And then she introduced the three new board members, Jason Neely, Dean Iverson and Ihirangi Heke, and the new student rep Bethany Sanders. These along with Tracey and Steve Garner and teacher rep Nyree Norrington, make up the Present Board. Ms Martin then went on to present the Special Awards.

The Senior Choir conducted by Caoimhe Lane and Directed by Wendy Sutherland presented a buetiful piece, This Old Hammer by David Hamilton. This was followed by a Barbershop Quartet made up of Caoimhe, Pearl, Alisha, and Krysana singing Good Goody by Mercer/Maineck

No Prizegiving is complete without the Student Leaders presenting their remembrances on their time at Mahurangi College as well as a review of 2016 student events. Sarah and Nathan's fun and thought provoking speeches were well received. There was a special thanks to Mrs Newlove,  Yr 13 Dean and then Green House was announced as the winner of the 2016 House Competition following on from their success in 2015. The 2017 Head Boy, Zane Illingworth and Head Girl, Hannah Powell were announced. They, in turn, then introduced next year's deputies, prefects, house leaders, and executive.

Following this, the Academic Awards and Scholarships were presented to many of 2016's Year 13 culminating in the presentation of Proxime Accessit to Brooke Nicholls and the Dux Award for 2015 to Chantelle Maher.
