<p>The annual Prizegiving took place on Wednesday Nov 5th in the College Hall. Alistair Elder welcomed everyone and the National Anthem was then sung. Te Whanau O Mahurangi then performed  <a title="Kapahaka performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/nkPIX3IXwKI">(see performance)</a> before Tracey Martin gave her BOT Chairperson's report.</p>
<p>The sports and cultural awards were then presented by retiring teacher, Mr Les Cave. Following this, the Jazz Band directed by Mitchell Houlbrook presented <em>Everybody Dance/Get Lucky</em> arranged by Mitchell <a title="Jazz Band performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/pd4SEPfB3EE">(see performance)</a>. Then followed the presentation of the Merit Awards. Level 1 by Mrs Jo Hathaway, Deputy Board Chair, Level 2 by Ms Tracey Martin, and Level 3 by Mr David Macleod, Principal. The Performing Arts Academy performed a moving interpretation in light, animation, music and dance of Stan Walker's Aotearoa to a great reception from the audience finishing it off with Mahurangi Colleges's Haka. <a title="The Harmony Group performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/fOLtDi8PuTw">(see performance)</a></p>
<p>The 53rd Mahurangi College Report was presented by David Macleod, who mentioned some initiatives for the coming years, reviewed 2013's academic results and gave a quick summary of some of the many successful events of 2014. He then spoke about 2 special members of Mahurangi College- Mrs Ann Marinus who is stepping down from her role as Assistant Principal (11years) at the end of the year, and Mr Les Cave, who is retiring after 27 years at Mahurangi. Mr Cave arrived in 1987 as the horticulture teacher, and more recently full Science teacher. Both these teachers have been involved extensively in school life including the Yr 9 Camp and school prizegiving organisation for many years.</p>
<p>The Harmony Group directed by Mrs Jenny Eirena performed <em>Kaleidoscope/Hide and Seek,</em> by Imogen Heaps. <a title="The Harmony Group performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/MVnSv-B9jmA">(see performance)</a>Ms Ann Marinus then presented the Special Awards.</p>
<p>No Prizegiving is complete without the Student Leaders presenting their remembrances on their time at Mahurangi College as well as a review of 2014 student events. Daniel and Alana's fun and lively speeches were well received, <a title="The Harmony Group performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/r4gxa6rnqls">(see the speeches)</a> A bouquet was presented to Mrs Newlove,  Yr 13 Dean and then Purple House was announced as the winner of the 2013 House Competition. The 2015 Head Boy, Daniel Vaughan and Head Girl, Ella Hauser were announced. They, in turn, then introduced next year's prefects, house leaders, and executive.</p>
<p>The senior choir directed by Mrs Jenny Eirena then performed an original song, <em>Promise of Land</em> by Mrs Eirena.<a title="Senior choir performs at Mahurangi College Prizegiving 2014" href="http://youtu.be/2BSWSEukm0w">(see performance)</a> Following this, the Academic Awards and Scholarships were presented to many of 2014's Year 13 culminating in the presentation of Proxime Accessit to Briella Martin and the Dux Award for 2014 to Jessica Tappin.</p>
