This is a creative course that encourages students to explore their own culture and interests to design a garment. Students will also develop fashion drawing techniques to help communicate ideas and concepts.
    Main Areas of Study:
Level 3 Textiles is where technical mastery and creative vision come together. This course is designed for students ready to push their design skills to new heights—whether preparing for university, fashion school, or a creative career.
Students begin the year constructing a bias-cut satin chemise—an advanced garment that demands precision, finesse, and a solid understanding of fabric behaviour. This project refines high-level technical ability and introduces the kind of techniques used in the fashion and textile industries.
The major project allows students to design and construct a complete styled outfit of their choice. Drawing on everything they’ve learned throughout their senior years, students have the freedom to create a look that reflects their personal style and interests. Many students choose to make their school ball dress or suit, or to enter regional and national competitions such as Hokonui Fashion Awards or Walk the Line fashion shows.
Level 3 Textiles encourages creative risk-taking, independent thinking, and technical excellence. Students are supported to work at their own level, whether they’re building a portfolio for tertiary study or simply passionate about design and making.
This is a future-focused course that not only develops practical skills, but also fosters innovation, sustainability, and critical design thinking.
