    L3PHY L3 Physics 19 credits Yr: 13
16 credits externally assessed at the end of the year and 3 credits internally assessed during the year. This is a university approved subject.
    Costs:
    A scientific calculator is essential.
    Prerequisites:
12 credits in level 2 physics. Minimum of 10 external credits or with Head of Faculty approval.
    Learning Strategies:
Success in Level 3 Physics involves consistent practice with mathematical problem-solving, applying formulas, and interpreting physical situations. Students are encouraged to regularly summarise key concepts, use diagrams to visualise systems, and complete past exam questions to build confidence. Collaborative learning, seeking feedback, and explaining ideas to others will help deepen understanding. Using digital simulations and video resources can also support conceptual learning in complex areas like electromagnetism and quantum physics.
    Main Areas of Study:
This Level 3 Physics course extends students' understanding of fundamental physical concepts and their real-world applications. Students will study the principles of mechanics, electromagnetism, and wave systems in depth through externally assessed standards. Internally, they will explore modern physics, including atomic and quantum phenomena. The course emphasises mathematical modelling, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, providing strong preparation for tertiary study in physics, engineering, and other science-based fields.
