Learning Strategies: | ||||
It is not necessary for students to have done History at Level 1 and 2 but a sound grasp of comprehension skills and reading skills are strongly recommended. There is a strong focus on analysing evidence to understand perspectives, causation and significance. Evaluative judgements will also be developed and made. | ||||
Main Areas of Study: | ||||
The theme for year 13 history is power and identity. There will be a study of the Northern War which may be supported by a field trip to the Bay of Islands to experience the site where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed and the significance of the area as a whole. The Battle of Kororareka 1845 will be our main area of focus as we analyse the causes and the impact on our society today. An analysis of a contested event in history will enable students to understand perspectives and why history is a discourse as historians are continuing to debate these events. They will develop their ability to write as historians. |
