Level 3 Health is an engaging and academically challenging course that explores complex health issues affecting individuals, communities, and societies in both New Zealand and around the world. Students develop critical thinking, research, and evaluation skills as they investigate contemporary issues from a range of social, ethical, cultural, and political perspectives. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to choose topics that interest them for each internal assessment. They begin by analysing a significant New Zealand health issue, such as drugs and alcohol, mental health, or child poverty. They then investigate the effectiveness of a health practice, exploring topics such as cancer treatment. In the final internal assessment, students critically examine an ethical issue such as euthanasia, considering diverse viewpoints and the values that shape decision-making. The course concludes with an external exam that explores an international health issue, requiring students to analyse global challenges such as poverty and its impact on sexual health, life expectancy, and disease. Ideal for students interested in health sciences, psychology, education, social work, medicine, nursing, this course encourages informed discussion, evidence-based thinking, and a deeper understanding of the health challenges facing today's world.
