    L3EFS L3 Education for Sustainability 19 credits Yr: 13
    19 Credits - 10 internally assessed credits and 9 externally assessed credits. This is a university approved subject.
    Costs:
    $25 project supplies
    Prerequisites:
    Students should have passed the majority of assessments at L2 EfS or with HOF approval.
    Learning Strategies:
    Education for sustainability includes learning about:
    · the environment – water, land, ecosystems, energy, waste, urban living and transportation
    · the interactions between the natural environment and human activities, and the consequences of these
    · the choices and actions we can take to prevent, reduce or change harmful activities to the environment.
    · the Māori concepts of manaakitagana and kaitiakitanga
    Students will develop skills to plan, act on and reflect on action projects related to environmental and social issues. Students will build effective communication skills, as well as improving their ability to critique sources of information and other people’s opinions.
    Main Areas of Study:
    Students will use their knowledge of the four pillars of sustainability to analyse how different actions and viewpoints affect sustainability . Students will also analyse the impact that policies make on a sustainable future. Lastly, student will plan and carry out their own sustainable action involving the ideas of manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga within our community.
