$75 materials cost, which includes basic printing, pencils, pens, erasers, specialist graphics drawing and rendering equipment, paper, clearfile display books, 3D printing, software costs, modelling materials, etc. All stationery and course materials are covered in this fee, and there is no need to purchase any special stationery. | ||||
Prerequisites: | ||||
Students must have gained an achieved grade in one of the two major projects (AS91341 or AS91342) OR the external standard (AS91337), in Level 2 DVC or gain Head of Faculty approval. |

Learning Strategies: | ||||
Students will choose their own project at this level, lasting a whole year and focusing on the specific area they are interested in. Therefore there will be a heavy focus on independent study, and effective time management is essential to achieve well. Students will be involved in practical activities and design briefs and be expected to describe and illustrate ideas using a range of drawing or digital methods relevant to the different stages of development and prototyping. |

Main Areas of Study: | ||||
The course covers all areas of visual design from architecture to product design, graphic design and 3D modelling. It is a blend of artistic design and solving practical problems. At this level, students choose their own project and focus area for the year. Students will gain knowledge and practical working experience of graphically communicating information through a range of drawing or digital methods, as well as a recognition of the design process and the development of effective, innovative design solutions. This course is aimed at students who wish to pursue a university based career such as architecture, spatial design, industrial design, graphic design, vehicle design, landscape design, animation, advanced engineering, and so on. Scholarship level Design & Visual Communication will also be taught in this class and can be entered if students wish to do so. |
