    L3BUS L3 Business Studies 19 credits Yr: 13
    4 credits are externally assessed and 15 credits internally assessed. This is a university approved subject.
    Costs:
    $40 for Field Trips $35 for YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) Students will need to fund their business that they run at market day.
    Prerequisites:
    Head of Faculty approval needed if not studied at Level 1 or 2.

    Attendance is taken into consideration as a large portion of this course is group work.

    Learning Strategies:
    Creative thinking, solution management, independent research, team work, decision-making and investigation through the practical application of business skills. Over the course of the year, the students will develop a new innovative and sustainable business idea, formulating both a marketing and business plan. This will involve conducting both primary and secondary market research to ascertain its potential and then launching and carrying out the business activity over a number of months, in consultation with a specialist advisor.

    The students will be supported by an outside business mentor who will offer advice on all aspects of their business plan, including its implementation. This will provide an invaluable opportunity for those who are interested in undertaking tertiary study in a commerce related subject or running their own business in the future.
    Main Areas of Study:
    Students will gain a knowledge and practical working experience of how a business works. Students will look at the internal features of a business that operates in a global context. They will also apply business knowledge to operational problems as they they develop and manage their own businesses.

    Students will also participate in the Lion Foundation - Young Enterprise Scheme (YES). This provides students with an excellent opportunity to meet, work alongside and be mentored by business leaders from around New Zealand.
