    Main Areas of Study:
Level 2 Textiles turns up the heat—with more challenge, more creativity, and more real-world opportunities. Whether you're pursuing fashion, design, sustainability, or hands-on tech skills, this course is for makers, thinkers, and change-makers.
The year begins with a focus on technical precision, as students create a tailored shirt complete with collar and cuffs. This project builds confidence, fine-motor skills, and a deeper understanding of garment construction.
Midway through the course, students shift to a major design project using upcycled or repurposed textiles, tackling the global impact of fast fashion. This is where design meets purpose—students explore sustainability, textile waste, and ethical production while creating a unique garment with real-world relevance.
    Exciting extras include:
Optional work placements with local designers and makers
Opportunities to enter national and regional fashion design competitions
A class trip to Wellington to attend the World of Wearable Art show and visit key textile and design institutions

Students have the freedom to work independently or with support, depending on their strengths and goals. Whether you're heading to university, design school, or the creative industries, this course is a rich, exciting step on the journey.
