L2MAC L2 Mathematics with Calculus 18 credits Yr: 12
9 externally assessed credits, 9 internally assessed credits
Costs:
Approximately $50 for workbooks. A scientific calculator is essential for all students. For students who will go on to take mathematics in Year 13 a Casio fx 9750 GIII graphics calculator (or fx 9860 GIII) is recommended. Graphics calculators can be hired from school for a cost of $30 for the year. Students wishing to hire a graphics calculator must fill out the form available at student services.
Prerequisites:
Students must have a proficient understanding of algebra to be successful in this course. This means they should have merit or higher for ALL of AS 91944 Explore Data, AS 91945 Mathematical Concepts, and the external AS 91947 Mathematical Reasoning. Students who do not meet these criteria may be considered under discussion with the Head of Faculty.

Note: Students may opt to take BOTH the L2MAC (Mathematics with Calculus) and L2MAS (Mathematics with Statistics) courses.
Learning Strategies:
Students will learn through utilisation of a range of different learning strategies that include: directed teaching, investigations and discovery learning, group work, practice tasks, regular formative and summative assessment. Students in this course must commit to completing regular homework tasks.
Main Areas of Study:
This course is designed to lead into the courses at Level 3 in 2027: level 3 calculus and level 3 statistics. The main focus of this course is to strengthen and build on algebraic concepts learnt at year 11 and to introduce the realm of calculus. Other areas of mathematics like trigonometry and graphs are also covered. Because such a broad range of topics is on offer, students must be comfortable to quickly learn and perfect new concepts.
