    L2EN2 L2 English Internal 18 credits Yr: 12
    4 credits assessed externally, with 14 credits internally including options to use unit standard assessments, if required. NOTE: This course has limited UE literacy credits attached, if students are considering university study, or keeping their options open, they should take the L2 External English course.

    Nil.
    Prerequisites:
    This course is designed for those students who would be unlikely to cope with the demands of a full level 2 English course. Students in this course many still be working towards their level one literacy and can use credits from this course. Students will need to sit the level 2 film external to gain access into level 3 English or by recommendation from the Head of Faculty.
    Learning Strategies:
    A full range of teaching and learning strategies will be used.
    Main Areas of Study:
    In this course, you will build on the foundations of Level 1 English, with a strong focus on visual texts and critical thinking. Through the powerful themes of survival and difficult decisions, you will explore how people adapt, endure, and relate - in film, fiction, and the real world.

    You will research a topic of your choice, analyse a film in depth through close viewing, and explore connections between a range of texts. Later, you’ll craft a concise, purposeful short report and prepare for the NCEA exam with focused essay writing on a studied visual text.

    This course is perfect for students who enjoy film, want to strengthen their writing skills, and are ready to think deeply about how stories shape our understanding of the world.
