L2CRT L2 Creative Technology 22 credits Yr: 12
Approximately 18 credits available, and includes primarily practical unit standards. Achievement standards may be available, depending on the needs of the class. Projects are designed and constructed, with assessment being split between the techniques used for creating the product, and a portfolio of work to explain decisions made. This is not a university entrance pathway course.
Costs:
$230 material fee.
Prerequisites:
Students must have demonstrated an ability to work safely in a workshop environment at previous levels.
Students cannot do both Design Technology and Creative Technology, as they cover some of the same skills and potentially standards.
You would also not normally take this course if you are taking level 2 construction, though exceptions may be made with HOF approval.
Learning Strategies:
This course focuses on creating wooden or composite products such as light fittings and furniture, using both traditional wood working skills, and innovative production technology such as laser cutting, laminating, CNC and composites. Students will be involved in initial design development, prototyping, and problem solving, then evaluating their design and production processes. Students will complete practical projects with some accompanying design and explanation of their thinking.
Main Areas of Study:
This course expands on the essential skills and knowledge students developed in level 1 technology. It suits students who are interested in product design, construction and making. Students will produce two or more practical projects with supporting development and evaluation. The course will cover some computer work and automated production, along with traditional practical skills. While this course is practical and caters to students with vocational aspirations, those who wish to pursue a more academic university pathway may also be accommodated if there is demand.
