L1SC1 L1 Science 16 credits Yr: 11
10 credits externally assessed, 5 credits internally assessed Credits in this course could be used for the Literacy and Numeracy pathway
Costs:
$10 for a student booklets
Prerequisites:
All year 11 students are encouraged to take Science.
Learning Strategies:
Students will engage with hands-on experiments and practical activities to explore chemical reactions and energy concepts, reinforcing theory through real-world applications. Visual tools like diagrams, models, and flowcharts will support understanding of processes. Regular revision using flashcards and quizzes will help retain key terms and concepts. Collaborative discussions and group work will encourage deeper thinking and help clarify challenging ideas. Practising exam-style questions and reflecting on feedback will build confidence for external assessments.
Main Areas of Study:
This Level 1 Science course focuses on key concepts from chemistry, physics, and biology. Students will complete an internal assessment on chemical reactions, where they explore patterns in reactivity and changes in substances. Externally, they will study energy in physical systems, including heat, motion, and electricity, and investigate biological ideas related to inheritance, variation, and evolution. The course develops scientific thinking, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities, laying a strong foundation for further science study.
