By ticking "I agree", both you and your child are agreeing. Please note you may need to scroll down to view the entire statement. If you have questions or require clarification, please email enrolment@mahurangi.school.nz I agree Parents' or Caregivers' Undertaking * I hereby undertake with the Mahurangi College Board to observe the following conditions so far as they affect me and do my best to see that the student observes them. • That the student will attend College punctually and will not be absent without leave of the Principal except in cases of illness/emergency. • That the student will wear the uniform as prescribed and that the students property will be clearly marked with his/her name. • Where damage or disfigurement of College property is caused by the student, this will be put right to an equal standard. • That I will pay the material charges or other fees levied by the College. • That College rules and regulations will be observed. • That Mahurangi College receive the individual student file and relevant information from their previous school. • That the student knows the importance of the college rules for the use of computers and the internet, I know that if my child breaks the rules, they may lose the right to use a computer and the college may take other disciplinary action against them (refer to the Mahurangi College Digital Citizenship Guidelines). • Mahurangi College does not allow the use of cellphones during class time. • That I accept it is my child's responsibility to meet and understand the importance of the school rules on the buses (refer to the Student Bus Rules Agreement). • That I give permission to the school to publish my child's work and to publish photos of events which include my child on the colleges website, not ID cards. • As the Parent/s or Caregiver/s I will notify the College when a change of address occurs. The information which has been requested by the College is held at the offices on Woodcocks Road and will be used for the following purposes: • To facilitate the operation and administration of the College • To maintain contact with parents • To provide information to the Ministry of Education, NZ Qualifications Authority, Special Education Services • To inform the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development of any students being ‘at risk’ so that support can be offered by these organisations. I agree Code of Conduct for Parents, Caregivers and Visitors * Mahurangi College is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and visitors. Our Code of Conduct serves as a reminder to all parents, caregivers and school visitors that their conduct must support everyone’s emotional and physical well-being, and not harm it in any way. The school’s Board has set this Code of Conduct as a condition of entry. The Code of Conduct applies: • to all conduct, speech and action, and includes emails, texts, phone calls, social media, or other communication; • while on school grounds or at another venue where students and/or staff are assembled for school purposes (such as a camp or sports match). Standards of Conduct • treat everyone with respect • work together in partnership with staff for the benefit of students • respect and adhere to our school values • set a good example for students at all times • follow school procedures to handle any complaints • adhere to school policies and procedures (such as those listed below), and any legal requirements. Examples of unsuitable conduct include: • threats, bullying, harassment • profanity/offensive language • insulting, abusing, or intimidating behaviour • racism or discrimination (eg. based on ethnicity, religion) • physical aggression • deception/fraud • damaging school property • smoking or possessing or using alcohol/drugs/nicotine/vaping/other harmful substances on school premises or at another venue where students and/or staff are assembled for school purposes (except possession or use of alcohol strictly in accordance with Mahurangi College policy) • placing unreasonable and excessive expectations on staff time or resources • pursuing a complaint or campaign, or making defamatory, offensive, or derogatory comments, regarding the school, its Board, or any staff or students on social medial or other public forums • wearing gang insignia on the school grounds. (This is not allowed under the Prohibition of Gang Insignia legislation, and anyone wearing it will be asked to leave). Dealing with breaches of the Code of Conduct How Mahurangi College deals with breaches of our Code of Conduct depends on the nature of the incident and its seriousness and the process any witness or victim of the behaviour feels most comfortable with. Examples include: • documenting each instance of behaviour, including the date, time, place, who was present, what was said (verbatim if possible), how any witness or victim felt and/or responded • holding a meeting with the relevant person, the principal, and/or board chair (or their delegate) or appropriate staff member to discuss the problem and possible resolution • issuing a warning letter that outlines the problem and required resolution and reminds them of the possible outcomes of repeated conduct • arranging a meeting, which may include restorative practices, as an alternative or in addition to the processes above. Outcomes of breaching the Code of Conduct If a parent, caregiver, or visitor acts or speaks in a way that contravenes the Code of Conduct, possible outcomes may include: • The school, through the board, may ask a person to leave the school premises by revoking their permission to be on the school grounds, then asking them to leave under section 3 of the Trespass Act 1980 • Unacceptable behaviour of a criminal nature may result in the police being informed For example, under section 30 of the Education and Training Act 2020, it is a criminal offence to insult, abuse or intimidate a staff member within the presences or hearing of any student while on school premises or in any other place where students are assembled for school purposes. Other instances of criminal offending may occur where drugs are involved, an assault has occurred or a person persists after being trespassed off school grounds • In the case of behaviour amounting to harassment, a restraining order may be sought • In some instances, it may be appropriate to refer to behaviour to a third party for resolution. For example, a Facebook comment that contravenes the policy may result in a report to Facebook. If unacceptable behaviour occurs at a sports event or sports venue, then it may be appropriate to involve the governing body of sport, event or venue. I agree Student Behaviour * We all have a responsibility to maintain a friendly and safe and supportive environment. If you see any behaviours that are dangerous or offensive, you must tell a member of staff. It is the responsibility of all of us to keep our school community a safe and friendly place where good learning can occur. At Mahurangi College, you must not bring to school anything that is harmful to yourself or others, this includes but not limited to: alcohol, cigarettes, e-cigarettes (vapes), other drugs, lighters, explosives, inappropriate or offensive material, sharp instruments. There are behaviour protocols relevant to various curricular areas that must be followed. You must not behave in a way that is dangerous or offensive to others. This includes intimidation, bullying, any verbal or physical abuse or the spreading of offensive material about people in the school community, students, families, and staff, by any means electronic or otherwise. All students are given a clear warning about such behaviour. This is your warning. There will be serious consequences if you do not adhere to these requirements. Students are not permitted to record or distribute visual or audio material of any other person, without their permission. This inappropriate behaviour is prohibited under the Harmful Digital Communication Act 2015. I understand any student suspected of having cigarettes (including e-cigarettes, vapes) or an illegal substance at school, will be asked for a search. The school will, at any time, bring in drug dogs to do a search of the school. In very rare occasions where safety is compromised, there may be a requirement for a trained staff member to restrain a student. Ministry of Education guidelines are followed. I agree School Fees * At Mahurangi College we prefer payments to be made by direct credit to the account details below. I agree Student Bus Rules * Please read and sign this agreement whether you catch a bus or not Drivers from Go Bus and Leabourns appreciate common courtesy. Greeting them with “Good Morning” or “Thanks” is a nice way to start or end the day. • No one is allowed to arrive by bus and then leave the school grounds • Students should always walk to their bus and get on and off the buses in a safe, orderly fashion • Students who leave the school grounds to visit local food bars after school, are no longer considered bus students on that day and will NOT be allowed on the bus. The following will incur a warning then a suspension for the second offence: • Students walking about while the bus is in motion • Anything placed/thrown out of a window • Food or drink consumed on the bus • Foul language on the bus • Bullying in any form - verbal, physical, emotional. Serious offences may result in immediate suspension The following will incur immediate suspension by Gubbs (OSH reasons): • Foul language/abuse to driver • Smoking/vaping • Aerosol use • Lighter use (matches, ignition devices) • Moving across the road in front of a bus • Damage/graffiti to the bus. Students will be charged for any damages they incur and can be refused travel by the bus companies until payment is made. Students are instructed to remain standing for at least 20 seconds after the bus has left before they cross a road in safety. Students should be in correct school uniform to travel by bus, except under special circumstances, such as a school trip or mufti day. During exam leave, senior students must wear correct school uniform to catch a ride. New bus students must bring the signed return slip back to school at the beginning of the school year, or as soon as possible after enrolment. Students who incur a suspension may be required to sign a contract before they will be permitted to resume travel. “Transport by bus is a privilege and not a right” I agree Education Out of The Classroom (EOTC) for local low-risk trip permission * This consent covers all local low-risk events/activities that occur before school between 6:30am and 8:40am, during the course of the school day, and after school from 3:20pm onwards. Possible events/activities may include but are not limited to; cultural practices, sports practices, inter-school sport competitions, dance and drama rehearsals, course tutorials/ workshops, and curriculum-based learning experiences in the local community.
